How the Farmers are benefited

  • More than 40 trainings, capacity building programmes, farmer summits, shetishala, etc every year benefited farmers through knowledge acquaintance.

  • The amount of cotton processed @ 19575 bales …and average of cotton being 15.83 qtl /farmer , and assuming average @7090 per quintal , about 6000 cotton farmers directly benefitted through value addition of Rs 283.60 per qtl. (i.e. adat 1.5 %, 1 % CD, good rate - 1 % +, less hamali -0.5 % ).

  • Job work facility allowed farmers to sale processed cotton directly to textiles.

  • Pledge and warehousing allowed handholding to small holders.

  • Considering the amount of pulses and oilseeds procured @ 70% CU being 74800 quintals and average yield of tur, chana and soybean being 537 kg/hectare, 447 kg/hectare and 487 kg/hectare respectively; and assuming average 1.44 hectare landholding, over 4,700 Tur, Chana and Soybean farmers would be directly benefitted through value addition of 4 % over the market.

  • Several Turmeric farmers (about over 100 nos.) could also be directly benefitted through value addition.

  • Assuming these 8500 farmers are a family of 4 persons, we hope that the project will bring positive change in livelihood of 34000 persons.

What we hope to deliver.

  • Farmers to get properly remunerated for their produce.

  • Farmers to get proper trainings so as to understand ways to increase production with simultaneous reduction in cost.

  • Reduced dependence on traders to sell their produce.

  • The farmers can pledge their produce if they do not wish to sell it at that time.

  • In terms of additional value realization, we hope the project will bring positive change in livelihood of about 34000 persons (of farmer families).

  • The project provide direct employment to over 45 persons ranging from admin, skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled.

  • The project shall also be able to provide indirect employment to over 400 persons ---support industries like transport services, insurance, packaging material, consumables, pest control/ fumigation, etc.

Status of Farmers in Cluster

The baseline survey - about 90% farmers sell crops to local vendors or middlemen working for bulk procurers

  • Each producer has a small quantum of produce - limits their bargaining power.

  • Cotton, Turmeric, some pulses and grains are the major source of livelihood.

  • Infamous for large number cotton farmers suicides.

  • High investments in cotton production, but commensurate returns not received.

  • These growers often face severe losses over their investment despite the increase in MSP. The increasing cost of inputs, lack of irrigation facilities, problems related to yield, unfavorables market prices and several such reasons have been regular feature of the occupation.

  • Lack of mechanisation at farm level & Lack of facilities for quality analysis and lab testing.
